We created a pop-up “cafe” on Canal Street create the vibe that the lively community space (think: seating, art, vendors, music) that is envisioned for the central corridor within the redeveloped Bates Mill 5 connecting the parking garage, Mill 5 tenants, and eventually Lisbon Street. Recognize that sawtooth roof?! Part of Build Maine 2016.

The Bates Mill 5 Working Group is organized by Grow L+A and the regular monthly meetings are open to the public. This group works on projects related to supporting the successful redevelopment of the iconic Bates Mill No. 5 in the heart of downtown Lewiston. The nature of the work evolves with the project. It has included, for example:
Supporting feasibility studies and student research;
Grant writing and fundraising;
Community engagement and creative awareness-raising — for example, planning and hosting forums, pop-up events, kitchen table conversations, online surveys, tabling at the Lewiston Farmers’ Market, live art window at the L/A Art Walks, Build Maine conference, tactical urbanism, etc.;
Providing community-related resources to potential Mill 5 tenants & connecting them with the project developer, Tom Platz of Platz Associates.
